Fall of a tyrant
Issued on: Modified:
The French press is in celebratory mood over the end of Muammar Gaddafi's regime on Tuesday morning - but they can't agree on whether France's contribution to the NATO intervention was visionary, or a craven attempt to make up for having been caught out by the Arab Spring.
Le Figaro congratulates Nicolas Sarkozy on the key role he played in pushing Gaddafi out - while Communist paper l'Humanité says the French role in the NATO intervention barely makes up for those French politicans who welcomed Gaddafi with a red carpet just a few years ago.
Liberation points out that NATO may have helped, but it was the Libyan rebels who put their lives on the line; and now they have to work out how much international influence there will be on the new Libyan government.
As for le Parisien, they focus on Dominique Strauss-Kahn - speculating on his chances of getting back into the presidential race.
