New COURREGES
Issued on: Modified:
In the fashion world, miracles do sometimes happen.
The revolutionary French fashion house Courrèges, created in 1961, had been wasting away ever since its founder André retired in ‘96. No buyer was deemed worthy enough in the eyes of his wife Coqueline. Then, on a Sunday in October 2009, she met two ambitious admen wanting a change of scenery, with big plans for reviving the brand. The unlikely new Courrèges owners have worked in tandem for 25 years.
Like relaunching the Courrèges label, by reviving the brand’s classics, such as the miniskirt, white and contrasting colors, architectural dresses, PVC boots, and the bags !
Such a unique fashion house requires a special approach. The new presidents of Courrèges detest « star designers », apart from their company’s founder, of course, and are gambling on the strategy of design workshops.
André was a public works engineer. He and his wife never stopped questioning the world around them -- always searching for solutions to the problems the they found.
Since the hippie era, Courrège’s iconic products expressed optimism, joy and spontaneity, without forgetting the essential thing!
One last detail, Torloting and Bungert are natives of Metz in Northern France, and the bankers who took a chance on them aren’t from the fashion world in Paris – but from the same region!
