A red carpet reception in Mali, but a no-show for ECOWAS

ECOWAS delegates were forced to abandon their mission to Mali on Thursday amid security concerns. The five West African Presidents were set for talks with Amadou Sanogo, the army captain who last week led a military coup. The junta has been heavily criticised by African and international leaders and the delegates had been en route to persuade the coup leaders to hand over power. But many Malians are backing their new military leaders.
