The secret garden of the 'Syrian Kurdistan'

Despite the civil war that's been raging in Syria for a year and a half, there is one corner of the country that can say it has relative peace. On the border with Turkey lies the Kurdish part of Syria and this area is not controlled by President Bashar al-Assad or the Free Syrian Army. The fighting elsewhere in Syria means the Kurds have been left largely to themselves, and they're making the most of the opportunity to redefine their own identity.
