Markus Karsslon is marking the 40th anniversary of Lonely Planet. The books are almost synonymous with travel advice. The Lonely Planet guides were founded by Tony Wheeler and his wife Maureen after a trip that took them from London to Sydney on a shoestring. Forty years down the line, more than 100 million Lonely Planets have been sold worldwide.
