Two people have died and nine inujred here in France in a train accident in the south of France. A train used often used by tourists was derailed by a huge boulder. Nicholas Rushworth.

Derailed and hanging precariously ... the tourist train was travelling from the coastal city of Nice ... to Digne-les-Bains in the Lower Alps. And was about halfway through a three-hour journey when a huge boulder the size of a carhurtled off a mountain and smashed into it. The French Interior Ministry reports more than one hundred rescuers and two helicopters were deployed ... the remote location and weather have hampered the rescue. Manuels Valls, French Interior Minister"The accident involves a train of the Provence Railway which I believe is a private company. The weather is poor ... snow is making rescue efforts difficult."The train travels along the mountains along a scenic route ...during the winter snow and rock fall do occur but the railway line is usually considered safe for travellers.
