The Ebola outbreak that emerged in March has killed more than 670 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, according to the World Health Organisation. The epidemic continues to expand with Nigeria confirming its first fatal case.
The outbreak of Ebola, a viral illness, in West Africa is the world’s deadliest to date and has spread from Guinea to neighbouring Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Last week, Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, confirmed its first Ebola fatality, triggering a “red alert” at Nigerian airports, seaports and land borders in a bid to contain the highly infectious disease.
On Tuesday, health officials confirmed that Dr Shek Umar, the top doctor treating Ebola in Sierra Leone, had died from the disease.
