The international coalition against the Islamic State group appears to be gaining momentum. On Monday, Paris hosted a conference of around 30 countries and organisations, during which Iraq received pledges of military support as well as other kinds of assistance. He is a former chief executive of the European Defence Agency and a former British diplomat who served in Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. He tells us how he thinks the international coalition should deal with the Islamic State militants' rise in Iraq.
