EU-US free trade agreement: A bad deal for European consumers?

When it comes to consumer protection, the EU prides itself of having some of the world’s strictest rules. But campaigners have raised the alarm over the implications of a possible free trade deal between Brussels and the United States. They claim such a deal would force the EU to lower its protection standards to American levels. Will American chlorinated chicken and GM food make their way into European supermarkets? Are these fears grounded or simply irrational?
