In Egypt, security forces are a regular target of militants, particularly in the restive Sinai region. In the deadliest assault to date, over 30 soldiers were killed last week. In addition, authorities are particularly concerned about the possible influence of the Islamic State organisation on the country's jihadists. Support for the extremist group is growing within some Islamist circles, which have been severely repressed following the ouster of Egypt's Islamist government in 2013.
