Three years and 150,000 deaths later, there seems to be no stopping a Syrian president whose forces can shrug off fresh allegations of pipe bombs and nerve gas. After all, the West is preoccupied elsewhere with Ukraine, and is in no mood to open a new front against Syria's backers Iran and Russia. But has the pendulum swung for good in favour of Assad?
