CAR: Thousands of Muslims trapped in enclaves
Issued on: Modified:
This time last year, the Central African Republic was still embroiled in fighting between ethnic and religious factions. Last July a peace deal was signed, and this week a national reconciliation effort is being launched. However, ethnic tensions remain. Some 36,000 Muslims remain trapped in so-called enclaves, and the government has prevented them leaving, in a bid to avoid a mass exodus of Muslims from the country.
