(SOUNDBITE) (English) DEMOCRATIC ALLIANCE LEADER, MMUSI MAIMANE, SAYING:We can transcend racial inequality, but this can only happen if every South African acknowledges the injustices of apartheid and can only happen if we all recognise that racial inequality of the past still remains with us today.Replacing 62 year-old Helen Zille, the young part-time pastor hopes to rebrand a party that has failed to appeal to the country's black majority or challenge the ruling African National Congress under Jacob Zuma. Many feel the 34 year old represents the party's best chance of breaking the ANC's two-decades long hold on power. Maimane speaks half a dozen languages and is a strong orator, but is criticised as lacking experience. He is up against the party machinery of the ANC - the party that has remained unchallenced since South Africa's first free elections in 1994. The DA party hopes to capitalize on widespread anger at high levels of crime and an unemployment rate that still stands at more than 24 per cent.
