Zidane’s son leads France to Euro 2015 U17 football finals

French goalkeeper Luca Zidane, the son of France’s legendary midfielder Zinedine Zidane, was a hailed a hero on Tuesday when he helped secure his national team a spot in the Euro-2015 U17 finals.

The sixteen-year old Zidane made three spectacular saves to give the French juniors a 2-1 shoot-out victory over Belgium in the semi-finals at Bulgaria’s Burgas stadium.

Despite his own failed panenka penalty hitting the goal post, Zidane was hailed as the hero of the match after he returned to goal to save a third and final shot from Belgium.

France’s national juniors will on Friday face Germany in the finals, after the latter beat Russia 1-0.

The French U17s have also qualified for this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup, to be held in Chile between October 17 and November 8.
