Beate Klarsfeld: 'It was our duty to bring Nazis to justice'

Beate and Serge Klarsfeld are France's most famous Nazi hunters. They have just published their memoirs in French, where they recount their incredible story. Serge Klarsfeld is a Romanian-born Jew whose father was killed at Auschwitz and Beate is the daughter of a former German soldier. They spoke to FRANCE 24's Marc Perelman.

Beate Klarsfeld explains that their tireless quest to track down top Nazis and French Vichy officials, some of whom had fled abroad, "was not easy" and took decades to achieve. "It was our duty to bring them to justice", she says.

Serge Klarsfeld expresses concern at the current political situation in France and the possibility of the far-right coming to power. "We hope that France will win the fight against the [far-right] National Front", he says.
