Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff spoke out about the corruption scandal surrounding football's world governing body, FIFA, in an exclusive interview with FRANCE 24.
"I believe that it is essential to shed complete light on the scandal concerning acts of corruption within the international football organisations, and including here in Brazil", Rousseff told FRANCE 24's Marc Perelman. "I believe that for Brazilian football, this is absolutely necessary". Brazil hosted the World Cup in 2014.
“Football is not just a sport today, it is also an industry", the Brazilian president added. "This football industry must be regulated, it must be open and transparent so that those who are living out their passion for football, who support their teams, can have absolute certainty that the money they spend, the shows that this generates, will be used for the benefit of the clubs and the athletes, and not for one or two people”.
