Syria, the root of the problem: France mulls airstrikes against IS group

François Hollande has announced that French fighter jets will fly missions over Syria, the stronghold of the Islamic State (IS) group. Is this a turning point for a mission that has so far enjoyed mitigated success? Hollande says that a political solution should include the "eventual" departure of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but after four years of fighting, and the refugee crisis hitting Europe hard, will the West keep insisting on his ouster?
