The battle for Ukraine: Russia rejects more talks as Donetsk fighting intensifies (part 1)

In the dead of winter comes a new low for eastern Ukraine. Fighting for control of Donetsk airport is now fiercer than ever. Kiev accuses separatists of getting fresh back-up from Russia, while pro-Russian separatists are talking of a massive offensive backed by Ukrainian nationalist militias. The renewed fighting comes at a time when EU leaders had hoped to ease sanctions that are bad for business all round. How is the implosion of eastern Ukraine impacting on the continent as a whole?
