Members of President François Hollande's inner circle are organising a meeting in Paris today aimed at defending his record in office. It's a last-ditch attempt to revive the president's flagging popularity at a time when the Socialist Party is losing members at an alarming rate.

Elsewhere there is controversy over the proposed transatlantic trade agreement, which is accused of being secretive and set to flood Europe with American products that don't conform to EU norms.
