Precious metals: Spain's new mining boom
With six mines open and around 20 projects in the pipeline, Spain's mining industry is being reborn, a business that most people thought had gone for good in Europe. Strategic interest for precious metals and rare earth elements, falling production costs, low political risk and the backing of local governments are all helping to attract foreign investors to the sector. But warnings are also being issued about the potential environmental risks involved.
