EU's Oettinger on Poland: 'Media independence is an important EU value'

Gunther Oettinger is the EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society. He comments on the Polish government's recent changes to the country’s highest court and the media. Oettinger points out that the EU has an "obligation" to check whether new legislation conforms to EU treaties. He was speaking after Brussels launched an unprecedented probe into the changes in Poland.

He also reacts to the recent violence against women carried out by some migrants in his native Germany. Oettinger believes Angela Merkel's decision to welcome refugees is a "good policy" but notes that those who arrive "have to accept our European rules".

Finally, he tells us about some of the digital economy projects the EU is working on.
