Laurent Gbagbo pleads not guilty to crimes against humanity

For the first time, a former head of state appears before a world court. Former Ivorian president Laurent Gbagbo is in the dock in The Hague at the start of his long-awaited war crimes trial.

Despite the allegations of atrocities, Gbagbo continues to inspire the fierce loyalty of those who think he's been made a scapegoat by Ivory Coast’s former colonial ruler, France. We meet some of his supporters gripped by the opening of the case.
