'Hollande's protégé steps forward after palace coup'

INTERNATIONAL PAPERS, 02.12.16: British paper The Times describes President Hollande's decision not to run for a second term as a "palace coup" by none other than his former protégé, PM Manuel Valls. Germany's Der Spiegel, meanwhile, says the news "leaves French Socialists in chaos". And over in America, centrist paper USA Today believes that President-elect Trump's decision to appoint General James Mattis as Defense Secretary signals "a wartime posture".
