Hollande's Middle East tour: How much leverage does France have?
Issued on: Modified:
French President François Hollande wraps up a tour of the Middle East today that has taken him to Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan. In addition to having signed business deals in Cairo, the French leader has discussed regional politics: The institutional paralysis in Lebanon, the Syrian refugee crisis and, of course, the threat posed by the Islamic State group. But what's the point? Does France still wield any real influence in the region? If so, what leverage will Hollande’s visit have?
