2017 presidential election: Nicolas Sarkozy, the uncertain return?

The party led by Nicolas Sarkozy called the Republicans has put forward a programme aimed at taking power back from the ruling Socialists in next year's French presidential elections. But the project has divided much of the party - with key figures accusing Sarkozy of using it to launch his own personal bid to become president. It comes as Sarkozy has announced that he'll be stepping down as leader of the Republicans - to allow him to run in the party's primaries scheduled for November.
