Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan once said: “Democracy is like a bus ride. Once I get to my stop, I'm getting off.” Prophetic words, especially when you look at the massive purge now underway following the failed coup. Our guest today, Marc Pierini, tried to keep the passengers on the bus. He was the EU ambassador to Turkey from 2006 to 2011. He spent much of that time crisscrossing the country, overseeing EU aid, and trying to bring Turkey closer to European norms and practices.
