Conservative primaries in France: A bitter fight?

This Friday, the line-up for the primary to designate the conservative candidate for next year's French presidential elections will be officially announced. The poll, which is scheduled for November, marks the first time the French right will use a primary to choose its candidate, and the knives are already out. Former prime minister Alain Juppé and former president Nicolas Sarkozy are well ahead in the opinion polls, followed by ex-minister Bruno Le Maire and another ex-PM, François Fillon.
