Giving 'The Girls' a voice: Emma Cline tackles cult leaders and communes
Début novelist Emma Cline sparked a bidding war at just 25 years old for her first book "The Girls". The story follows a young woman as she gets caught up in a cultish movement in northern California in the 1960s. Inspired by the Manson Family killings from the same period, it's a dark and gripping account of psychological manipulation and the intensity of adolescent fervour.
Emma joins us in the studio to talk about cults, communes and carving out the necessary mental silence in which to write.
