US police shootings: Race relations and the race to the White House (part 1)

This week, protests broke out in Charlotte, North Carolina, after yet another police shooting of an unarmed African-American man. In France, meanwhile, Nicolas Sarkozy pandered to nationalists in the lead up to next year’s election. And the Panama Leaks scandal tainted former EU anti-trust chief, Neelie Kroes. Also, the US-Russia brokered truce in Syria fell apart and bombing resumed in Aleppo. Finally. Finally, Rome’s mayor removed the city’s bid for the 2024 Olympic Games.
