'The EU needs to do more to make itself secure'
Issued on: Modified:
There are over 80 million illegal firearms in Europe but a ban on lethal semi-automatic weapons is being shot down by member states and the European Parliament. Meanwhile, cybercrime is a real concern for the EU; even the police agency Europol was recently revealed to be a victim of a potential leak after hundred pages analysis data was uploaded to a private storage facility.
Over a year after terrorist attacks rocked the heart of the EU, the bloc now has a Commissioner for Security, British national Julian King.
He speaks to FRANCE 24 about the plans to make the EU a safer place, the weapons ban but also about a new plan that could see a US-style pre-clearance system imposed on anyone entering the EU.
