30 years of Erasmus: Financing fun or funding employment?

At a time when much is awry in the EU, there is one European story that's being hailed as a major success: the Erasmus programme. It offers access and grants for young EU students and interns to study or work overseas. Since it began in 1987, over five million Europeans have taken part and the number of participating countries has doubled in 30 years. The budget for the programme has also been increased, with 15 billion euros set aside for the period 2014 to 2020. So is it a valuable investment?
