'Global Gamble': Papers weigh risks after US strikes Syria

The world’s media reacted strongly to reports overnight of a US missile strike against Syria in retaliation for Tuesday’s suspected gas attack on a rebel-held town. While some papers commended the decision of US President Donald Trump, others warned of a possible escalation.

The Wall Street Journal heralded the US strikes on Syria as "an important first step" to "enforce global order." But many papers are asking: what next? The Middle East Eye expressed concern that an escalation could turn Syria into "Libya on steroids".

Meanwhile, Vox has reported that the decision actually infuriated many of US President Trump's loyal supporters. As for the Syrian regime, its state media has decried the strikes as part of "a terrorist war on Syria".
