Top EU diplomat: ‘Germany is looking for a strong partner in France’
Our guest in this edition is a close associate of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Elmar Brok is head of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee. In the light of the upcoming French election, Brok says Germany does not want to lead the EU bloc alone and that joint leadership with Paris is “decisive for Europe.”
Brok says that among the French candidates currently in the running, Europe and Germany could live with both François Fillon and Emmanuel Macron as France’s next president.
“I believe that Macron, with his clearly pro-European concept, is also a good partner for Germany,” he asserts.
