A scooter caught fire in front of Jordan's military mission in Paris on Wednesday, triggering an explosion scare, local police said.

French police said they were investigating whether the fire, which damaged a diplomatic vehicle, was accidental. They denied initial reports of a blast.

Jordan's foreign ministry had earlier issued a statement saying a motorbike had exploded.

An official at the nearby Jordanian embassy told Reuters he did not believe his country was targeted.

The military mission is located on avenue Foch, in the French capital's upscale 16th arrondissement.
