Iran analyst Suzanne Maloney: 'Iran protests should not be taken lightly'

France 24 interviews Suzanne Maloney, who served on the policy planning staff to Condoleezza Rice when President George W. Bush was in office. Now a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, she is one of the top Iran experts in Washington D.C. She argues it would be “disastrous” if the Trump administration used the current unrest in Iran as a justification to renew sanctions on Tehran.

“For the US to breach its obligations under the nuclear deal, puts us in the position of being the bad guys at a time when the world’s attention should be focused on the misdeeds of the Islamic Republic of Iran toward its own people,” Maloney says.
