After a dramatic couple of weeks and a nail-biting speech where little was given away until the last few moments, South African President Jacob Zuma, an anti-apartheid hero and scandal-prone politician, announces his resignation.

Also, Zimbabwe's opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai dies of cancer aged 65. The man who was long known as a thorn in the side of former leader Robert Mugabe passed away on Wednesday.
