Talking Europe

Former ECB chief Trichet predicts strong economic future for EU - despite Brexit

He's the man who was holding the EU’s purse strings when the global financial crisis hit. Jean-Claude Trichet, former president of the European Central Bank, tells FRANCE 24 why he believes Brexit is bad for Europe and bad for the UK. Trichet tells our Europe Editor Catherine Nicholson about his recollections of the financial crisis - and why he's convinced that despite the shadow of the UK's departure, the European economy is, for now, looking strong.

We also discuss the latest economic news in France as the public deficit falls below 3% for the first time in a decade – and whether President Macron is taking France in the right direction by taking on the powerful trade unions with his economic reforms and pumping public money into artificial intelligence.
