Can Europe be a world leader in animal rights?
The EU prides itself on its reputation as a beacon of human rights. But in today's programme we're talking about animal rights. It's an issue that's never gone away, but which is back in the news right now as the EU debates animal welfare in agriculture, the use of antibiotics in animals, and ways of stopping animal testing in cosmetics sold within the 28 member states. Can the laws passed truly be enforced on European soil, let alone beyond the EU's borders?
