Racist attacks in Italy: Is xenophobia on the rise?

In Italy, several racially motivated attacks have occurred in recent weeks. As well as the anonymous incidents that take place daily, public figures have been victims too: Athlete Daisy Osakue was assaulted while walking home near Turin. Born in Italy to Nigerian parents, the discus thrower may not be able to compete in upcoming European championships because of her injuries. Has the anti-immigrant rhetoric of the League party, part of Italy’s ruling coalition, fuelled this social climate?
