Making blood available to all in one hour

Scientists in Canada have discovered a way of transforming all types of blood into Type O, which everyone can accept without risk. The solution came in the form of an enzyme found in the gut which the scientists purified and then used to change the coating of blood cells. The process could prove revolutionary for blood banks and help keep supplies more readily available. Steve Withers of the University of British Columbia says it will take a few years of testing before it can be used for humans.
