'EU parliament vote will determine heart and soul of Europe for years to come'
With a matter of months to go until European citizens elect their next parliament, there’s already jockeying for position in the race for one job in particular. Once again in 2019, the political groups will each be putting forward a lead candidate, who will be in the running to become President of the European Commission after the election. Among the early candidates is Vice-President of the Commission and current Commissioner for Energy Union and Climate, Maroš Šefčovič.
Speaking to FRANCE 24, Šefčovič discusses the likelihood of a far-right wave entering the EU parliament in 2019; the prospect of a "no-deal" Brexit; a new call for member states to commit more money and people to handling the influx of undocumented migrants; the latest warning from scientists over global warming; and corruption in Slovakia amid new developments in the investigation into journalist Jan Kuciak’s murder.
