Kenyans on Lamu build boat from recycled plastic
Issued on: Modified:
The once-pristine beaches of Kenya’s Lamu Island now have plastic regularly washing up on the sand, but volunteers have decided to take the matter into their own hands and build a boat from the scattered plastic.
For more than two years, volunteers have been collecting pieces of discarded plastic that washed up on the island’s shores. The waste was then sent to a recycling plant and transformed into building materials.
The volunteers are hoping that this project will encourage people to rethink their plastic consumption.
