Tightening the screws: World forced to follow US sanctions on Iran
Issued on: Modified:
Sanctions for most, waivers for the lucky few. The United States is imposing, or rather reimposing, its Iran embargo rules on the rest of the world. This is because most trade - and in particular oil - involves US dollar transactions and Donald Trump's decision to walk away from the 2015 nuclear agreement forces foreign companies to follow suit. We review the list of eight nations still allowed to import Iranian crude but which does not include Washington's EU allies.
