Italy vs EU: Budget showdown between Rome and Brussels

Most of us will have memories of our parents telling us to learn the value of money – not spending all our cash as soon as we get it, and always having something in the piggy bank for a rainy day. An argument in a similar vein, but on a much bigger scale, is currently playing out in Europe. Italy is the third-biggest economy in the eurozone and seems determined to push on with a big-borrowing, big-spending national budget that won over voters in March - setting up a showdown with Brussels.
