Plastic planet: Can an EU plastics ban work?
Have you thought about how much plastic you use on the average day? Perhaps a bottle of water for your commute, a plastic bag for your shopping, maybe a straw in your after-work spritzer? It sounds small, but huge quantities end up in landfills or in our oceans.
It’s estimated that 100 million marine animals die each year from ingesting or getting caught up in plastic trash in the seas. An overwhelming majority of MEPs recently voted to ban a swathe of single-use plastics in the EU within the next few years. So today we’re asking; will this law come into full effect? And what impact will it have on the environment, on business, and on the lives of people around Europe?
