'India treats a girl like a burden even before she's born'

Nearly two in every five women in the world who kill themselves today are Indian. They are more likely to be married than not, and on average come from some of India's wealthier states. Poonam Muttreja, the executive director of the Population Foundation of India, told FRANCE 24 that child marriage, domestic abuse and entrenched patriarchal structures are all part of the problem.
