Video: Libyan town of Sabratha cracks down on people smuggling

Until recently, the western Libyan port town of Sabratha was the country’s main people-smuggling hub, with criminal gangs overseeing the departure of thousands of asylum seekers and illegal immigrants across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe. But for the past year, under pressure from Europe, local authorities have been cracking down on gangs and have now retaken control of the town. FRANCE 24 reports.

A report by Julie Dungelhoeff, James André and Abdallah Malkawi.

A programme prepared by Patrick Lovett and Emerald Maxwell.
