PERSPECTIVE

Are the EU's migration policies putting human lives at risk?

A report by the Dutch think tank Clingendael says the EU's focus on border security and trying to stop immigration is creating its own problems: reinforcing people smuggling and opening new precarious routes. Clotilde Warin, one of the authors of the report, gives us her perspective on what the EU's efforts have achieved. Warin says the solution is not to criminalise migration, as doing so puts those seeking asylum in an even more vulnerable position.
