France is currently experiencing a wave of social unrest, initially sparked by plans to increase fuel tax but which has broadened into wider anger at the high cost of living. We take a closer look at the often fraught relationship the French have with their taxman.


The "Yellow Vest" movement had one grievance at its core: the government's now-abandoned eco-tax on fuel, which protesters say disproportionately targeted low-income workers. But is their anger justified? We put the question to sociologist and tax expert Alexis Spire.
