The EU and Venezuela: Back Guaido, back elections, or back off?
It's a crisis that’s playing out more than 7,000 kilometres from Brussels: a battle of the presidents in the South American oil nation of Venezuela. While around 50 countries worldwide have formally recognised the President of the National Assembly, Juan Guaido, as interim president, European member states have failed to find common cause.
A majority of the European Parliament recently voted in favour of backing Guaido rather than Nicolas Maduro. In our Talking Europe show, four MEPs debate the issue and tell us why they believe that the EU should – or shouldn’t – be picking sides.
